Interacting dinosaurs with water is a key element for enhancing scene realism. This tutorial demonstrates the complete technical approach to simulating wading effects in Blender. The core concept involves treating the dinosaur's feet as collision objects within the Mantaflow fluid system to generate water displacement and splash particles. First, define a Domain container enclosing the interaction area and bind the dinosaur foot bones as Effector objects with Collision type enabled. In simulation settings, set Viscosity to a low value to mimic water flow; adjust Resolution based on camera distance (minimum 128 for close-ups). Splash effects are generated via a Particle System emitting from the foot-water contact surface, guided by Force Fields to simulate trajectories. Foam and bubbles are added through additional particle layers, using textures to control emission density specifically in turbulent zones. For rendering, apply Principled Volume to the water body with Absorption and Scattering parameters to replicate the optical properties of murky river water. Overlay the water surface with a Glass BSDF combined with Noise Texture to simulate ripples. To manage simulation time efficiently, start with low-resolution tests before increasing precision for the final render. Cache management is also critical; bake simulation results to disk to avoid recomputation. Finally, enhance dynamic motion in post-processing by adding motion blur and chromatic aberration in the Compositor.
