Thin skin moves well and tears easily. Thick skin survives handling and looks stiff over joints. Mature builds vary thickness across the body: thinner at the face and throat, heavier at the back, hips and tail where visitors and mechanisms put stress.

A skin that feels convincing on day one can split at a seam within a season. Ask about tear resistance and elongation rather than shore hardness alone. Reinforcement at attachment points and along high-flex seams matters more than the surface feel.
