A Triceratops sculpture tells a heartwarming story of becoming the mall's most popular family photo spot in the atrium.

They placed me in the center of the grand atrium, where sunlight pours through the glass dome, echoing with footsteps and laughter. I'm a triceratops cast in bronze-colored resin; my three horns have been polished smooth by thousands of tiny hands. This shopping mall is my world, and I love every corner of it.

The first week was overwhelming. So many people rushed past me, barely glancing my way. I worried I wasn't positioned well enough, that my neck shield wasn't grand enough, or that my posture lacked the drama to make busy customers stop. Then a little girl broke free from her dad's hand and ran straight toward me with arms outstretched. She hugged my front legs and declared, "Mine!" Her dad smiled, pulled out his phone—and just like that, I was no longer just a decoration.

I've become the meeting spot. "Meet me at the dinosaur," parents text their teens. "Wait by the triceratops," friends tell each other. I'm a coordinate, a landmark—where lost kids are found and families reunite to celebrate. During holidays, they hang wreaths on my horns and place gift boxes at my feet. On Halloween, someone always puts a tiny witch's hat on my head. I wear these decorations with pride.

I've watched generations pass through this atrium. Babies once in strollers now bring their own children to visit me. Teens who awkwardly posed beside me years ago have returned with partners, recreating the old photos with shy smiles. The mall staff and I are close: the cleaner who wipes my corner every morning, the security guard leaning on my tail during slow shifts, and the barista standing by me with afternoon coffee from the nearby café, savoring a quiet moment.

Malls can feel cold, filled with identical stores and the sterile efficiency of fluorescent lights. I am different. I am the unexpected encounter, a pause in the daily grind, the reason a child pulls an unwilling parent back to the atrium one last time before leaving. I've heard proposals whispered beneath my feet, seen tears wiped away in my shadow, and witnessed reunions that make even the busiest passerby stop and smile.

Some nights, after the last customer leaves and the cleaning crew works in quiet rhythm, I wonder what it means to be a sculpture in a commercial space. I'm not art meant for contemplation in a gallery. I am art in motion, surrounded by the beautiful chaos of everyday life. I wouldn't trade this noisy, busy, wonderful human existence for a display case in any museum in the world.
