Category:Dinosaur Facts · Reading time:6 min

Saurolophus is a Late Cretaceous hadrosaurid dinosaur from Asia and North America, reaching lengths of up to 12 meters. It belongs to the Saurolophinae subfamily, whose members lack hollow crests but may have solid bony projections. Saurolophus features a solid bony spike extending backward from the back of its head, likely supporting a skin sail or serving as an attachment point for muscles. As one of the largest known hadrosaurs, it possessed an efficient dental battery capable of processing large quantities of coarse plant material. Fossils of Saurolophus have been found in Mongolia and Heilongjiang, China, indicating its widespread distribution across Asia during the Late Cretaceous.
