Issisaurus: A Cretaceous Sauropod from Egypt

Isisaurus is a titanosaurian sauropod dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of India and possibly North Africa, reaching lengths of about 18 meters. Initially classified within Titanosaurus, it was later recognized as a distinct genus. Fossils of Isisaurus, discovered in the Lameta Formation of India, include postcranial skeletal elements. Its vertebrae exhibit typical titanosaur features alongside unique autapomorphies. Isisaurus inhabited river floodplain environments at the end of the Cretaceous, coexisting with various other titanosaurs and theropods. The taxonomic history of Isisaurus reflects the complexity of titanosaur systematics, a field that remains one of the most challenging areas in paleontology.
