Category:Dinosaur Facts · Reading time:6 min

Charonosaurus is a lambeosaurine hadrosaurid dinosaur from the Late Cretaceous of Heilongjiang, China, with an estimated body length of 10 meters. Its name derives from Jiayin County (formerly Charon) near where it was discovered. The fossil material includes a partial skull exhibiting typical lambeosaurine features, suggesting it may have possessed a tubular crest similar to that of Parasaurolophus. The discovery of Charonosaurus demonstrates that northeastern China hosted a diverse dinosaur fauna during the Late Cretaceous and shares close faunal affinities with the dinosaur assemblages of Russia's Far East. Charonosaurus is one of the few confirmed lambeosaurine members in Asia.
